something for your screen

Hi friends! I'm just full of freebies at the moment! Here's this months downloadable wallpaper to spruce up your desktop. Enjoy these sugar coated geometrics by downloading them right here.

colour inspiration

It seems I've had a bit if an aversion to lilac ever since my all matching wallpaper border and bed spread at 13 years old. It became pretty sickly after a while! Having said that it's been growing on me lately and I'm especially loving these dusky lavender tones that look so ethereal. Mix it with a yellow and kapow!...something even more beautiful happens.

unexpected gems

I love a bargain! Actually I think it's fair to say I only ever buy bargains. Sale items, charity shop finds and ebay steals are the way I role. Nick has only convinced me of the merit in spending the extra wack on a select few items. One of which being winter boots. I learnt the hard (wet) way but it took me 6 or so pairs over the years to wear down my resolve. Anyway, here’s a bright and cheery bargain to match the bright and cheery weather outside. Check out these fun cushions from Matalan for only....wait for it....£6! You could probably spend that on one quick trip to Tesco Metro on your way home! Brighten up your pad with this instant colour pop. Yay!

make your own jewellery

I've been admiring all of the geometric jewellery on offer at the moment and had a bit of a brainwave. Why not make your own?! I've come up with a very simple DIY idea that works out pretty cheap, especially if you're making a few. When I was about 10 my mum introduced me to fimo for modelling. It's easy to mould and you just need to bake it for 30 mins in the oven to harden it. I hadn't used this stuff for about 10 years and suddenly I was wondering why not!
All you'll need is....
  • Fimo (available from craft shops/ ebay)
  • Gold paint
  • Cheap necklace chains
  • Rolling pin
  • Scalpel & a ruler
  • Cutting mat
  • Paper
Use the paper to make geometric stencils to cut from the Fimo. Roll the Fimo on a cutting mat, then with a sharp scalpel and ruler cut around your stencil. Use a pen to make holes for the chain to feed through and then bake your shapes on a foiled baking tray for 30 mins on 110ºC or 230ºF remembering to leave them to cool and harden once baked. Now you're free to paint the gold areas. You will probably need at least three coats and it's sensible to let each coat dry before moving on to the next. Finally thread the chain through the holes. You may need to temporarily remove a metal end that might prevent the chain from fitting through.

felt tips ain't just for kids!

I've been enjoying the triangle trend of late and I'm seeing more and more geometric patterns out and about. I'm generally not one for super slick, clean lines so I decided to put my own spin on the idea. Here are the patterned notebooks I created using a fine liner and an array of felt tips. Who said felt tips are just for kids? It was quite liberating to hand draw all of the patterns with no help from a computer at any stage and it definitely gives them a bit of personality.
